Japanese Black Pine - Pinus thunbergii ' Kotobuki'
The Japanese Black Pine Bonsai (Pinus thunbergii) is arguably the most iconic evergreen conifer in the art of bonsai, celebrated for its rugged, dark bark, stiff dark-green needles, and its ability to convey immense age and power. While it is a hardy, resilient outdoor tree, the highly specialised, twice-a-year pruning techniques required for de candling and balancing energy make it a species of advanced difficulty.
